Candidate selection has become sensitive in areas where several leaders are seeking the same seat. Discontent among unsuccessful aspirants could lead to rebel candidates, internal friction and difficulties for official nominees.
For the opposition YSR Congress Party, such differences could provide an opportunity to challenge the ruling alliance at the grassroots level. Local elections often depend on personal networks, community relationships and individual leaders' influence, making candidate selection particularly important.
The alliance's ability to settle disputes before polling will be crucial. A coordinated campaign could strengthen its position, while unresolved rivalries may weaken its efforts to convert its political advantage into local electoral victories.
