Revanth seeks Maharashtra support for Tummidihatti barrage
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has taken the proposed Tummidihatti barrage project to Maharashtra, seeking cooperation to raise its planned height to 152 metres. During talks with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai, Revanth stressed the project’s importance for irrigation in Telangana, particularly in the Adilabad region.

The proposed barrage across the Pranahita river could help facilitate gravity-based water transfer and reduce dependence on costly pumping. However, technical feasibility, water availability, land submergence and compensation remain important issues requiring examination. Fadnavis proposed a joint committee of officials to study the outstanding questions before a decision is taken. The meeting has opened another round of discussions between the neighbouring states, but the project’s future will depend on the technical findings and the extent of agreement reached by both governments.
