A suspected espionage network with alleged links to sensitive naval installations in Visakhapatnam has come under the scanner, prompting investigators to examine whether confidential information was compromised.
Reports said two individuals, including a civilian driver associated with the naval base and a trainee sailor, were arrested over alleged links to Pakistan-based intelligence operatives. Investigators suspect that social media platforms and WhatsApp may have been used to establish contact and obtain sensitive information.
The investigation, reportedly named Operation Firewall, is examining the possibility of a wider network and whether information about naval facilities or vessel movements was shared.
The case has drawn attention to the security risks posed by attempts to cultivate insiders through digital communication.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the extent of any information leakage must be established through evidence and due legal process.
