Despite the continuous downpour, pilgrims stood patiently for hours, many sheltered under umbrellas and raincoats, awaiting a glimpse of Sri Malayappa Swamy atop the majestic golden Garuda Vahanam. The chants of “Govinda! Govinda!” reverberated through the rain-soaked streets as the procession moved around the Sri Venkateswara temple.
The rush began late on Thursday night, with devotees arriving early to secure vantage points in the galleries and along the procession route. As the showers intensified, families with children, elderly pilgrims and young devotees continued to brave the adverse weather rather than miss the eagerly awaited event.
The highlight of the evening was the appearance of Sri Malayappa Swamy, adorned with glittering ornaments and rich silk robes, seated majestically on the golden Garuda. The procession, a centrepiece of the annual Brahmotsavams, drew an enormous gathering, turning the sacred hill town into a sea of humanity despite the challenging weather.
The persistent rain added to the logistical challenges, requiring close coordination among TTD officials, police personnel, vigilance staff and Srivari Seva volunteers. Personnel remained alert throughout the procession, overseeing crowd movement, pilgrim safety and darshan arrangements.
For the thousands who endured the downpour, the opportunity to witness Garuda Seva made the long wait worthwhile, underscoring the event's enduring significance in Tirumala's annual religious calendar.
